Dorothy Taare-Smith (Ngāti Porou, Te Aitanga a Hauiti) is a taonga to not only Te Tairāwhiti but Aotearoa. This formidable woman has been at the forefront of disability advocacy in Aotearoa for the past 25 years and is an advocate for whanau dealing with Takiwātanga (Autism Spectrum). Now, she can add ‘world-first’ to her impressive list of achievements with hosting the first indigenous Takiwātanga Wānanga in Aotearoa.
